The Road Mistaken

(Inspired from “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, to tell a different story)

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry, I tried to travel both.
As one traveler, too long I stood,
With one road in my head,
And the other in my heart.

Then took the latter, as just as fair,
But hesitant little steps they were.
Despite the joys of the passing there,
I turned around and hurried back,
For my head messed with my heart again.

But it wasn’t without hoping,
That the road would somehow pull me back in,
Which, oh, it of course didn’t!
So I found myself
At crossroads again.

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
But this time I saw just one, for the other did not matter.
I went back on the road I traveled by,
Excited to tread on the leaves again,
But for me, it had just the thorns and stones.

I shall be saying this with a sigh,
Somewhere ages and ages hence,
Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And I – I took the one I wasn’t meant to take,
And that has made all the difference.

Vaag, this is such a nice poem, but interpreting and deciphering has been a mind game for me! Love playing the game, though.
